Classic worm gears
Properties
Classic worm gears are manufactured according to the modular principle. The basic range includes 11 sizes with a center distance of 30 to 175 mm. In each size you can choose between 11 single-stage reductions:
Basic types I/MI - up to max. i = 100:1
Gearbox with timing belt pre-stage V/MV - up to max. i = 300:1 (possibly Delete )
double worm gearbox CI/CMI - up to max. i = 2400:1 (possibly Delete )
Application
Worm gears are cost-effective and generate high torques in a small space. However, their efficiency is lower than other gearboxes, which leads to energy losses in the form of heat. However, this enables a high level of self-locking in the gearbox, which means that any torque generated by the application, which acts back on the worm shaft, is braked or blocked by the gearbox. They are used when high torques are to be generated through high reductions and/or self-locking is required.
